On the day of the course:
We start with introductions and house keeping . Key points of the theory, completed online are recapped and related to the service. All products, tools and equipment are discussed including storage and H&S precautions.
The tutor will demonstrate a client consultation and perform a detailed demonstration of the service whilst answering any questions you may have.
After the demo, each student will complete the full service under the supervision of the tutor.
At then end there is another opportunity to ask questions and discuss what has been covered during the day. However, don't worry should you think of something later you can call or email for support.
After the Training
It is important that after training you practise your new skills on friends and family - carry out 5-10 practise sessions in order to make sure you have fully understood everything covered in training and improve your delivery time. If you find you are having any issues, that will give us an opportunity to address any problems before you start offering this service to clients. We are available for support by phone, email or Skype.
Once you have completed your Diploma course, your qualification material will be added to your elearning account. You will print out the relevant documents and create your portfolio. At UKBS, we use an independent learning structure so that you are able to work at your own pace, around your current commitments. You will work through the following at home to build your knowledge, skills, timings and confidence:
During this time you will have access to our NVQ Coordinator who can be contacted for any help, assistance or guidance.
Once the above has been completed, you would then return to the school to complete your live assessments and paper test/s. These will be spread across a minimum of 2 days and will take place at the site that you completed your Diploma. When attending your assessment days you must wear a full beauty uniform or all black with enclosed shoes, short, natural nails (gel polish is fine but no extensions). You must bring your completed portfolio and something to write with. You must provide your own models which should be arranged according to the ranges that you need to complete in your qualification. For most units, 3 different models are required (however some require 4 or 5 – please contact the NVQ Coordinator if unsure). If you are completing multiple units, you would follow this structure for each unit.
Training for all courses takes place at our Beauty Schools based in either:
Chatham, Kent - Parking opposite in Union Square Pay & Display (Behind GALA Bingo)
Rainham, Essex/Surrey - Paid parking - payment can be made by coin or card and details of the Pay-By-Phone App will be provided clearly on the machines. The new system uses automatic number plate recognition technology so there is no requirement to display the receipts provided by the pay machines in vehicles in order to prove payment, the system tracks payments by vehicle registration.
WE MAY TAKE PHOTOS/VIDEOS DURING COURSE IF YOU DO NOT WANT YOUR IMAGE USED ON SOCIAL MEDIA WEBSITE INSTAGRAM ETC PLEASE MAKE SURE YOU LET THE TUTOR KNOW BEFORE LEAVING COURSE.
We provide students with access to our online training area before they attend the school. We find by doing this they are able to complete the theory in their own time and are able to absorb more information. This also means we have more time for practical, which then allows the tutor to demonstrate best practices as well as answer any Q & A’s.
The really depends on what you're looking to do, if you're looking to treat friends, go mobile or run your business from home then we’d recommend a diploma by the Beauty Guild. However, if you were looking to work in a Salon or Spa most would require you to have an NVQ/VRQ qualification.
If you decide on the NVQ/VRQ qualification you'll also be required to attend an additional day for assessment, further to this you'll automatically receive a diploma qualification. More information will be given to you during your practical day at the School. Assessments are only available at Kent or Essex.
The upgrade will cost £264 per treatment for example Manicure £264 Pedicure £264. Cost for other upgrades £384 each for Full Body Massage, Microdermabrasion, Reflexology Eyelash Extensions, Epilation and Facial/Body Electrotherapy, and is available during checkout. NO VRQ Upgrade available for Lash Lifting/ Quick Dip Acrylic/ Defined Brows/Brow Lamination.
Yes, you’ll have the option to do this if there is an upgrade available for the particular treatment. You’ll have to pay the additional fee (see above) for the upgrade, and we’ll then provide you with all the additional material for your NVQ qualification. We’ll then schedule your assessment day at the school.
Most insurance companies will insure you with a Diploma or NVQ certificate. Our specialist insurance scheme through Salonsafe provides tailored cover for our qualified students. The insurance allows our students to gain cover to work on the public, with treatment risk included as standard. Please click here for further information.
It will depend on the circumstances surrounding the cancellation and the notice given(see T&C for more details). In the instance that a refund is requested due to illness, medical notification will be required. Unfortunately, we are unable to give a refund if the online theory has been accessed/completed.
Yes. As well as doing the online theory at your own pace, students will find that by practising at home AFTER you have taken the course, performing approximately 6 -8 treatments, they will achieve more confidence in doing treatments. Free refreshers are offered up to 6 month after course date if you feel you need more training.
We believe in keeping the class sizes small, so students have more one 2 one time with our tutors. Our normal class size is 4 to 8.
Please see course content for any course-specific requirements regarding models as some courses DO REQUIRE models.
Whilst every care is taken when delivering courses to prevent any issues when students are practising treatments however, you must be aware that this is training and that you accept that there may be risk associated with receiving treatments from a student.
When completing a NVQ/VRQ, you are required to provide your own models for your Assessment Days. Please be aware that you may not be working on your model during an Assessment Day. To maintain a realistic working environment and to develop your skills of working on different clients, models will be allocated at random on an Assessment day
